Notice of Civil Service Commission Vacancies
Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue District is accepting letters of interest from individuals interested in serving on the Civil Service Commission.
The District currently has two (2) vacancies on the Civil Service Commission and is seeking community-minded individuals who are interested in supporting fair, merit-based employment practices within the Fire District.
While District employees are represented under a collective bargaining agreement, Oregon law requires the District to maintain a Civil Service system. The Civil Service Commission helps ensure compliance with state law and oversees Civil Service rules and processes related to recruitment, testing, eligibility lists, promotions, and appeals.
Term of Appointment
Civil Service Commissioners serve four-year terms and serve without compensation as provided by Oregon law. Commissioners may be reappointed upon expiration of their term.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Reside in South Lincoln County.
- Have an interest in public service and supporting fair and impartial employment practices.
- Not be a current employee, volunteer firefighter, or member of the Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue District Board of Directors, as required by Oregon Civil Service law.
- Be willing to attend meetings and participate in Commission business as needed.
How to Apply
Letters of interest will be accepted for 21 days, beginning August 24, 2026, and must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on September 14, 2026.

The purpose of Civil Service rules are to implement provisions for the employees of Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue District #7. These rules represent the sole Civil Service policies for Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue District #7 provided by ORS 242.704 and achieve for the District the following objectives:
A. To establish a system of personnel administration based on merit principles and scientific methods, governing the appointment, tenure, promotion, layoff, removal, and discipline of its officers and employees, and other incidents of employment, and to provide an exemption from ORS 242.702 through 242.824 as provided in ORS 242.704.
B. To promote and increase economy and efficiency.
C. To establish and maintain a uniform plan of classification based upon the relative duties and responsibilities of positions in the service of Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue District #7.
D. To provide an equal opportunity to all qualified persons to gain employment on a basis of demonstrated merit and fitness to be ascertained by open recruitment and competitive examinations.
E. To develop a program of recruitment and advancement that will make a career in the District service attractive to persons who possess both ability and integrity.
The Civil Service Commission for Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue is made up of three Commissioners appointed by the Board of Directors to three year terms.
